How it works
The OAM operates on a United Nations based organisation and prides itself on granting as little power as possible to the Secretary-General and Secretariat of the organisation, as almost all power is vested in The Council.
The Council
The Council is the decision making and debating body in the OAM. It operates on a basis of 'one nation, one vote' in The Council, regardless of 'standing'.
Resolutions may be introduced by any member nation and all are considered equally. Some of the things that may be included in resolutions are:
- Settling disputes
- Agency reports and requests
- Granting assistance packages to new and fledging micronations
- Commending or condemning a micronational entity
The Members of The Council debate on the matters outlined in the OAM Charter.
Secretariat
The Secretariat is essentially the administrative body of the OAM, consisting of the Secretary-General and his/her staff.
As outlined in the Charter:
"The Secretariat shall comprise a Secretary-General and such staff as the Organisation may require. The Secretary-General shall be appointed by The Council. They shall be the chief administrative officer of the Organisation."
The Secretary-General is elected on 4 month terms by The Council. The current Secretary-General is Tom Turner.
